A Keeper of Sanity

Having a husband who works five nights a week is somewhat taxing. Add in an occasionally stressful job and no one to decompress with at night and things start to get iffy. The cherry on top is having to be responsible every night for two children. All of this means I have a tendency to get a little twitchy.

Enter my best friend from work.

She is someone who keeps me sane.

I am truly blessed to have such great friends but I just have to brag on this one for awhile.

She has this great yard with a pond in the back yard that her husband goes fishing in. They also get snapping turtles back there too. A big hit with my kids when there were snapping turtle babies. Her hubby usually moves them to a different home/larger lake when they start to get bigger and snappier.

Her husband is also this fantastically handy guy. So not where Sarge’s strengths lie. I can’t even begin to tell you how painful home improvement is at my house.

He built this fort/swingset all by himself. I’m on the ground taking this picture so it’s pretty tall. And that curly headed cutie is her oldest daughter at her birthday party.

He also built a zip line with a swing seat that goes really fast, as demonstrated by my girl.

She also has two fabulous daughters. Here is her oldest at her birthday party making her birthday wish. I just love the closed eyes and intensely thoughtful face.

And see that gorgeous cake. NO pre-ordered, bakery-made cake for these folks.

Her husband made that “W” shaped cake for his girl’s Webkinz-themed party.

I think it would be a cold day in Hades before Sarge baked a cake.

This is their youngest daughter.

She’s a girl after my own heart. She’s extremely artistic and very funny. After having a rough time at her sister’s birthday party (I mean, seriously, it’s hard seeing some else get so many gifts and so much attention), she was gracious enough to entertain me while she played with their chickens.

Yes, they have chickens. Egg-producing chickens. For this city girl, that’s pretty awesome. I took a dozen eggs home with me one time and they were delicious.

So basically, I can’t really even capture in words or pictures of how cool she is, along with her husband and her kids.

And you may be wondering why I am going on and on. You see, it’s people like her that are nice to pathetically whiny people like me. And keep us stable, normal-like, semi-functioning individuals.

She also has this other interesting little tidbit about her that by no means define who she is. It just makes for some very interesting stories.

Which I will share with you tomorrow.

Assuming she’s okay with me taking some more pictures of her.
