My Silver Lining

We are less than six months away from the third anniversary of Sarge working nights. And I have made it no secret that I find this aspect of his job and my life very annoying. And frustrating. And pretty much any similar type adjective you can think of to express my displeasure.

As my family ever so sweetly pointed out to me over our spring break trip, I have a tendency to go on and on with my complaints on this but not this time. In addition, according to my family, I also have a tendency to rake Sarge over the coals on a regular basis because of his job. I will not be engaging in this type of behavior either.

So tonight, I am hanging out by myself, enjoying my few moments of blessed solitude before my exhausted body finally gives in to sleep. I am also trying to focus on something positive so I myself will not get tortured by my own family because of throwing Sarge under the proverbial bus on a regular basis.

Allow me to back track a little though. Sarge and I bought a new T.V. back in September with high definition capabilities. For several months,  I asked Sarge for a high definition box. I’m not sure of the kind and all the details but whatever we would get from our cable company would be just fine. Anyway, Sarge has been putting me off, moaning and groaning about the cost and such. There was also some muttering about trying to live with less as he likes to refer to Zen Habits occasionally. Of course, when I really call him on the carpet about giving up cable completely in order to truly live without less, well, you would think I asked him to cut off his right hand.

Ironically, this weekend, Sarge reprogrammed our T.V. and it appears we get several high definition channels even without the benefit of a box.

And tonight, one of those channels is playing the newest version of Pride and Prejudice.

Now, I am not hoity-toity or anything but I have actually read the classic novel by Jane Austen (one of only a few classics that I have read). And I have also seen the British T.V. miniseries of this same novel. I have loved all of the various versions. One might say it is the quintessential chick flick.

My positive outlook for the night revolves around the ability to watch this movie all alone and uninterrupted.

Because we all know, if Sarge were here, there would be no way I would be allowed to watch such a horror of a movie.

Because, seriously folks, Sarge took me to Blades of Glory for our tenth anniversary.

That kind of movie is his idea of cinematic quality. I can make fun of him for that, can’t I?
